Li Arnee

Senior Reverend

My "yes" to God started at a very young age. Like John in the Book of Revelation, I too was given a vision of being chosen by God. This was something I didn’t understand at the time, but I knew I would one day have to embrace it.

I am Rev. Li Arnee, a Black man of trans experience, an ordained Reverend, and a licensed chaplain. Assigned female at birth, I always knew I was male, even though society saw and groomed me as female. Growing up confused, oppressed, and depressed, I often wondered who I was and what my purpose in life could be.

Then God gave me a vision, showing myself in the future leading and fighting alongside a nation of people during the apocalypse as an agent of God. This vision left me with even more questions about my life.

During my teenage and young adult years, I wandered aimlessly from church to church, seeking answers. However, I was often shunned for being a same-gender-loving person of color. It felt as though I would never belong to any church or society.

In 2008, I was blessed to attend Unity Fellowship of Christ Church in Los Angeles, where I first heard Archbishop Carl Bean, a gay preacher, proclaim the words: "God is love, and love is for everyone." Hearing this message and his Liberation Theology freed me from the oppression I had been living under, and my soul began to cry out. I was finally free to live my true, authentic life, knowing that God loved me. It was then that I began my transition from female to male.

Studying closely under Archbishop Carl Bean, I began to understand the gift of intuition I had been given and realized the meaning of the vision God had shown me years ago. The nation I was leading in the vision represented those who were emotionally destitute, spiritually broken, and battered by family, government, and religion—such as the LGBTQ2+ community, the poor, the impoverished, the imprisoned, and the sick and shut-in. God had called me to liberate them as I had been liberated.

Before Archbishop Carl Bean's passing, I shared with him the vision that God had given me. He blessed me and told me to follow God's calling.
